DR. STEVE MAY
Ph.D. Spiritual Psychologist
After several years of working with adults (18+) on issues like anxiety, depression, addiction, grief and loss, relationship struggles, and LGBTQ+ concerns, I’ve decided to shift my focus. Over the years, I’ve helped clients navigate questions around sexuality, trauma, and family dynamics, always using a collaborative, person-centered approach. My style as a therapist is eclectic, which simply means I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. I have worked with each client to figure out what’s getting in the way of their goals and what tools might actually help them move forward.
Starting October 1, 2025, I’ll be returning to my practice working exclusively with couples.
This next chapter on my life builds on my newly published book, Making Love Last: A Workbook for Gay Male Couples to Build Deeper Connection, Communication and Trust.
I’ll be using the book as a framework for treatment in both private sessions and group workshops, helping couples build stronger, more connected relationships-one step at a time.
What is a Spiritual Psychologist
A spiritual psychologist is a professional who combines principles and practices from psychology with spiritual beliefs and perspectives to help individuals address their emotional, psychological, and spiritual well-being. This approach to psychology acknowledges that spirituality can play significant roles in a person's life and can have a profound impact on their mental and emotional health.

Gay Male Couples
On February 5, 2024, my husband and I celebrated 50 years together. That makes me some sort of an expert on what it takes for couples to stay together. Hopefully, I can bring some of this wisdom to the table as I work with male couples in therapy. Male couples experience many of the similarities that all couples face.
